The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, a name derived from its engine size and the red color of its valve covers, made its racing debut in 1957 but only in 1958 did it compete in the entire season, winning the Prototype World Championship with victories at the 1000 km of Buenos Aires, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Targa Florio and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
